Spectacles
Ask in some popular chemists and they will tell
you that prescription spectacles cannot be passed on, because of the lenses
being too specific, although it may be possible to pass on standard reading
glasses. However, it is possible that some opticians schemes may be willing to
take even prescription spectacles (and grind the lenses to make new ones), so
it is worth asking at your opticians if they know of a scheme that does this.
Some schemes, such as Vision Aid, require you
to donate £1 per pair of glasses you donate, and locate your nearest
outlet of Vision Express. Some of the larger opticians chains, such as Dollond
And Aitchinson, and some branches of Specsavers however, will accept donations
of unwanted spectacles (including prescription ones) for charity without
requiring a donation.
