Memorabilia
From Thames Tunnel plates to London Underground pencil cases, from Merry Widow corsets to Mary Poppins Umbrellas; places, stage shows, films, story book & TV show characters have had memorabilia (usually mugs and T-Shirts) produced in their branding. Some of this whole popular in its day might now days be consigned to tat. Certainly it is generally not worth hanging onto in the hope that is might become valuable. However, what do you do with the stuff already accumulated. Ebay and Charity Shops seem to be the most obvious disposal methods. If considering putting on Ebay, do make sure you do your research first (a check of past auctions may reveal if similar items have actually sold, and if they sold at a price worth listing them at).
Categories
Very Valuable Items – Items for a mainstream auction house. An expert would probably need to be consulted as to what this category covers
Items Worth Selling – Collectables such as older Thomas The Tank Engine, Star Trek, and, Muppet memorabilia, or, not to mention film press packs, 1970s Star Wars Figures; and, certain china. It may be worth asking a dealer in the appropriate field whether it is worth selling the item. Or doing your own search on completed auctions on ebay, to see if the item belongs in this category. Remember if selling on Ebay you do not have to do the selling yourself, there are firms who will do it for you (although some of them may only try the once and if it does not sell the first time they do not relist it).
Items That Are Collectable But Not Worth Selling Yourself – Newer memorabilia or stuff that there is quite a lot of . This is worth giving to a Charity Shop or someone’s stall at a fair. There is also a demand on Freegle, Freecyle and at Give And Take Days for some of this, especially if it involves current children’s characters such as: Bob The Builder or Thomas The Tank Engine.
