Handicraft Materials

So you might be wondering what to do with Grandmother’s half used balls of knitting wool, and knitting needles, or Mother’s scrapbag of materials. There are quite a number of folk around the country who might put them to good use. In recent years there has been something of a revival in handicrafts, amongst both older and younger generations. Somebody somewhere could make good use of your horded scraps. Crafster.org is the major website for this kind of stuff, but Freegle, Freecyle and charity shops reach a wider circle.

Hand Sewing Equipment – Some charity shops may take this, organisations such as Freegle are a possibility.

Knitting needles – Charity shops may well take them, and there is a demand for them on community organisations such as Freegle

Scrapbag Material – There is some demand for these on organisations such as Freegle. You may also find that an amateur dramatics group or even a low budget film company, might be able to make use of larger pieces for making costumes.

Sewing Machines – It may be possible to sell these on Ebay (you don’t have to do the selling yourself, you can use an intermediary). There is always a demand for these on organisations such as Freegle.

Wool – there is always a demand for this for various organisations ranging from old people’s homes (knitting blankets for the developing world), to the Girl Guide movement (wanting wool for craft projects amongst their younger members). A number of charity shops are happy to accept assorted wool and knitting needles, and there is often a demand for them (along with knitting patterns) on organisations such as Freegle.
