Corkscrews
These fall into several categories, and their category very much affects what it is appropriate to do with them. Are they modern or old? If relatively modern then you would treat them like any other piece of modern kitchen equipment. However, if they are old it is worth bearing in mind that some old corkscrews can be valueable to collectors, so it may be worth getting that antiquated corkscrew that has lain forgotten in the back of the draw for goodness knows how many years checked properly.
Categories
Fairly Modern and Working – Community Forums such as Freegle, Freecycle, or a Give And Take day are probably the best place for these. A Charity shop may be a possibility, but do check first to make sure it is something they would accept.
Fairly Modern But Not Working – Unfortunately the dump is probably the best answer in this case. However, to examine the corkscrew carefully to be sure you feel it is quite modern.
Old – Working Or Not – Some old corkscrews may be worth something to a collector. It is worth looking on auction sites such as Ebay, to see if something similar to your corkscrew might sell there. If it’s very old, you might want to get an expert opinion, and consider sending it to an auction house, such as Christies. For example some ornate corkscrews with extras such as brushes may be quite old and of interest to collectors. These days, some auction houses may be willing to do valuations over the web at very little cost, so it could be worth checking out their websites and asking them.
